PEQ: Sterilization is the most exhaustively studied, then restudied, then scrutinized components of PEQ calculations. If we accepted any flaws, we accept the fact it carries with it too many risks.
The proper sterilization of swimming pools is the single most important aspect of a safe swimming experience. Without it, the swimming pools exposes unknowing bathers to an extremely unhealthy and potentially lethal water environment. Pathogens and diseases are very comfortable in water, as water plays a receptive host to most of these microscopic organisms. This has been the case for over seven billion years, therefore, the science of permanently eradicating them from this receptive host has escaped the capability of man. This problem is further exaggerated by the fact, swimming pools are open bodies of water, they are constantly exposed to new microscopic organism. Whereas, drinking water is treated, sterilized, filtered then bottled to make it safe. Pool professionals and homeowners don't have that luxury, therefore a safe pool MUST always be priority number one. Aiwaters accomplishes this in our process of intentional redundancy. Once again, aiwaters is intentionally redundant.
Chlorine in some form or the other is the world leader in sterilization of pool water, other extremely effective forms are ozone, ultra violet ray, and biguanide. However, the source of sterilization, the end product is the desired derivative of said substance. In the case of chlorine, HOCL is the desired form, its Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP) value is the desired derivative, and its ability to destroy microorganisms. The correlation between ORP and sterilization dates back to 1936, in regards to open bodies of water. In 1936, a research team of biochemist at Harvard University studied the resulting destructive power of increased ORP on foreign cells. From this study, our current standards of colorimetric testing was established with a loose following of ORP. Here at aiwaters, we use ORP as one of our three vitals. Of them, ORP carries the greatest weight, because it has the greatest demand placed on it by our clients. Therefore, we built our processes off the seasonally changing demands our clients places on this valuable value. For example, PEQ: Water Quality was impacted by ORP in numerous ways. The greater the clarity, the less demand HOCL has, the less ammonia based chlorine is produced, the less space HOCL has to share with microscopic particles, the more it frees HOCL to perform as an effective killer, as measured by ORP, to rid the water of nauseating water borne diseases such as E. Coli (Figure 1). ORP also works great in tandem with PEQ: Algaecide, when properly and strategically increased, HOCL as measured by ORP completely destroys the cell. This was witnessed in a study conducted in 1975 by a team of Microbiologist at the University of Wisconsin. ORP and Ph are also a perfect tandem in controlling not only algae, pathogens and bacteria but creates a great swimming experience for swimmers through reduce eye irritation and a clear swimming experience. Another recent study documented the great relationship that ORP value has as a water sterilization quality. Cal State 2011 ORP Water Quality Research
